Restoration of Wood Flooring

Wood Flooring Repair, Polishing Re-Surfacing & Re-Sealing of Timber Floors, Wooden Floor Restoration

We not only provide spectacular results with repair and restoration work on stone, marble, concrete, terrazzo and slate floors, we also offer the same service for wood flooring. A beautiful, gleaming finish for your wooden floor will add a stunning dynamic to rejuvenate your rooms, giving them a shine that can last years.

Damage from heels, toys and pets along with problems like old peeling varnish will render wooden flooring unsightly and compromise it’s functionality. Sometimes the degraded varnish is a darker shade than the wood underneath, making it look even worse. In this case, you may consider dabbing a little fresh varnish over the top for a quick fix, but proper preparation and treatment will give a much longer lasting outcome.

We recently completed restorative work on a wood floor at a popular Social Club in Greater Manchester using our tried and tested methods. We of course use personal protection such as dust masks, ear protection and appropriate shoes while carrying out this type of work.

  • Masking – We masked all fixtures and fittings near the area in order to protect them from dust and debris accumulation, as well as contamination by other materials.
  • Sanding – The floor surface was then dry sanded using coarse, medium and fine heads (plant complete with dust control attachment). This process gets rid of any scratches, scuffs or old varnish, and leaves a gloriously smooth finish ready for the next step.
  • Epoxy Application – This two pack epoxy moisture curing floor seal was applied using short nap applicators, and allowed to cure.
  • Wet Sanding – Once cured the floor was wet sanded with fine Fabricut discs and wet vacuumed dry.
  • Finishing Application – The final application of seal was carried out and all protection removed.

As you can see the results are extremely impressive delivering a pleasing transformation. Call us to discuss how we can help with your wood flooring on 01942 674785.

5 Steps to Stone Floor Installation

Stone Floor Installation & Repairs, Domestic & Commercial Wall & Floor Restoration, Stone Staircase Restoration

There is not much to equal the beauty and longevity of a real stone floor, for your kitchen, hall or bathroom, and contrary to popular belief it’s not that difficult to lay it yourself! So if you’re feeling brave have a go:-

  1. Prepare Prepare Prepare! This is the most important rule within DIY, as you will always regret it if you rush or bypass this stage. If you are installing stone tiles in a new build, a layer of concrete can be poured to create a level subfloor. You can hire a cement mixer here to make light work of this step. A remodelled floor however, will need a purpose designed, water resistant backer board.
  2. Measure Up and Buy: Multiply the length of the floor by the width and add 10 – 15% more so there are enough for cutting any small pieces, and don’t forget to buy the appropriate adhesive.
  3. Lay That Tile: It’s best to start laying the tile from the middle of the space, so that cut tiles only appear at the edges. Make sure the last tiles you lay are in an inconspicuous place as these could be uneven. Work out the layout of rough cut natural stone flooring before placing the smaller pieces in between larger flagstones. A hammer may be used to break off these small pieces.
  4. Securing: Once you’ve decided on the layout of your stone tiles, you can mix your adhesive, spreading a thickish layer before fixing the tiles. Use a spirit level to ensure a neat finish with no edges sticking up across all tiles.
  5. Sealing: When the floor is properly set, apply a good quality stone sealant to protect from stains and scratches and for a fabulous finish.

Once your floor is completed you can celebrate with a nice cup of tea while you admire your handy work! Oh and if you need any repairs or maintenance we can help, or if you don’t feel confident to lay your tiles, call us on 01942 674785 and we will provide you with stunning results!
